Jamshedpur, September 16: Jamshedpur East MLA Saryu Roy inspected areas between Adityapur Bridge and Mango Bridge along the banks of the Kharkai and Swarnarekha rivers, including lower settlement areas in Kalyan Nagar, on Monday evening.

Roy reported that the Kharkai River was currently flowing 2.28 meters above the danger level. The Odisha government had opened two sluice gates of the Bankabal Dam on the Kharkai River, increasing its flow. The Jharkhand government had also opened two gates of the Chandil Dam to manage the inflow and protect the submerged areas.

As a result, the water level of the Swarnarekha River had risen to 121.22 meters, approaching the danger mark of 121.50 meters. The Chandil Dam’s current water level is 182.10 meters. With the ongoing release of water, the Swarnarekha River may exceed the danger mark tonight.

MLA Saryu Roy requested the Water Resources Department to regulate the water flow from the Chandil Dam to mitigate the risk of flooding in lower Jamshedpur areas. He advised residents to take precautions and move belongings to higher ground, and urged the District Administration and JNAC to remain vigilant, ensuring adequate shelter and resources for those affected.
