Jamshedpur, Dec 12 : To reintroduce the profound legacy of Maharshi Panini—the father of Sanskrit grammar—to the contemporary Indian society, the Panini Utsav Committee will organise a one-day Panini Utsav on December 14.
The event will be held at the Kalidas Auditorium of PM Shri Utkrimit Peoples Academy (+2 School) in New Baradwari.
Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy will grace the occasion as the chief guest and inaugurate the programme.
The event will also see the presence of renowned linguist Dr. Mitreshwar Agnimittar, eminent grammarian Balmukund Chaudhary, grammar expert Dr. Shashibhushan Mishra, and scholar of grammar and computer science Dr. Kaustubh Sanyal.
The details were shared during a press conference held at the Kalidas Auditorium by committee secretary Chandradeep Pandey, Dr. Ragini Bhushan, and Rajdev Sinha.
Chandradeep Pandey highlighted that Maharshi Panini, one of India’s most influential ancient linguists, authored the monumental text Ashtadhyayi, comprising nearly 4,000 sutras.
This treatise forms the bedrock of classical Sanskrit grammar and linguistic science.
Beyond linguistic structure, it offers deep insights into the social, cultural, and political life of the era.
He added that India has long been acknowledged as a global centre of knowledge. With growing global interest in Indian knowledge systems and the rising relevance of coding languages, the intellectual contributions of ancient sages are being revisited.
In this context, Maharshi Panini’s Maheshwara Sutras, formulated around 2,600 years ago, are often regarded as the world’s earliest form of algorithmic or coded linguistic structure.
The Panini Utsav Committee has taken up the responsibility of bringing these lesser-known yet groundbreaking aspects of Panini’s work to current and future generations.
The first edition of Panini Utsav 2025 aims to enrich public understanding through scholarly deliberations by four distinguished experts from the fields of language and technology.
The event will also feature the launch of the book “Panini Pedagogy”, authored by Rama Popli, Director of the Panini Foundation.
The programme will begin at 11 AM and continue until 2 PM. It will be held in a single session.
