Jamshedpur: MLA Saryu Roy has written to the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Mango Municipal Corporation, demanding an inquiry into the legality of the multi-storey building “Lotus Residency” and raising serious concerns over the absence of a proper sewage disposal system.
In his letter, Roy alleged that untreated sewage from the building is flowing onto the road and spreading into adjoining areas, causing severe inconvenience to local residents.

He pointed out that the property has been declared as the residential address of Congress-backed mayoral candidate Sudha Gupta in her nomination documents.
According to Roy, Lotus Residency was allegedly constructed without an approved building plan and lacks any arrangement for drainage and sewage treatment.
Despite this, he claimed, the municipal authorities failed to halt the construction. He further stated that the building stands on land belonging to Suman Memorial Trust and was reportedly developed by Chandan Mittal, said to be a relative of former state minister Banna Gupta.
Roy questioned whether the civic body refrained from taking action because Banna Gupta served as a minister in the state government for the past five years. While he said the exact stake of Gupta in the building is not known, locals allegedly perceive the property to be associated with him.
Residents of near-by houses have repeatedly complained to the Mango Municipal Corporation and even staged protests, Roy claimed.
He alleged that sewage from Lotus Residency flows through the premises onto a vacant plot and frequently enters the residence of a retired BSNL officer, Chandrashekhar Singh. The situation reportedly worsens during the monsoon, creating “hell-like conditions” in the locality.
Calling it a matter requiring urgent investigation, Roy urged the civic authorities to examine the legality of the construction and take immediate steps to ensure proper sewage management to prevent further hardship to citizens.
