‘Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti’ Formed to Combat Train Delays: Jamshedpur MLA Saryu Roy

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur West MLA Saryu Roy announced the formation of the ‘Rail Yatri Sangharsh Samiti’ (Railway Passenger Struggle Committee) on Sunday. Social worker Shiv Shankar Singh has been appointed as the convener of the newly formed committee.

During the review meeting held at Milani Hall, Saryu Roy criticized the railway administration’s priorities, stating that passenger convenience must take precedence over freight traffic.

“Manage Just Five Minutes”

MLA Saryu Roy highlighted that the core demand remains simple: passenger trains must depart and arrive at Tatanagar on time.

• The Five-Minute Fix: Roy argued that since trains usually halt at Tatanagar for only five minutes, the railway management simply needs to optimize that small window.
• App Discrepancies: He pointed out flaws in the official NTES app, noting instances where trains “disappeared” from the tracking system upon reaching Kandra, while private apps continued to show significant delays.
• Freight vs. Passengers: Roy questioned claims by the Railway AGM regarding a reduction in freight trains to accommodate passenger traffic, noting that these changes have had zero impact on ground reality.

“Whether the number of goods trains increases or decreases is secondary; the priority is that passenger trains must arrive on schedule,” Roy asserted.

Movement to Reach Its Logical Conclusion

Convener Shiv Shankar Singh emphasized that this is not a political battle but a public crisis.

• A Common Platform: Singh invited members of all political parties to join the struggle, noting that the common man is the primary victim of the apathy of the railway authorities.
