Saryu Roy meets DC over Mango Water Project

Jamshedpur : Senior BJP leader and former legislator Saryu Roy on Monday met the Deputy Commissioner over irregularities involved in the Mango Drinking Water Project.

Roy said that at the order of the urban development department, a Delhi-based consultant company, IPE Global, has made a detail project report (DPR) for augmenting and reorganising the under-constructed mega water project.

He also produced a copy of the DPR prepared by the IPE Global, informing that if the new project is not stopped, then the people of Mango will not only remain deprived of getting drinking water this summer, but a huge amount will also be waster in the name of augmentation and reorganisation of Mango water project.

Addressing the newsmen, the former BJP legislator said that work for the Mango water project was started in October 2009 and it has almost been completed recently.

Roy said that as a fresh project worth over Rs 64 crores in the name of augmenting and reorganising the Mango water project will no way serve the interest of the people of Mango and will lead to misuse of fund, they met the East Singhbhum deputy commissioner, Amitabh Kaushal to oppose the move.

The Mango project aiming to supply 48 million litres per day started in 2005 as a public-private partnership between state drinking water and sanitation department and Tata Steel subsidiary Jusco.

At present, against a demand for over six million litres of water a day, three lakh Mango residents receive less than a third, that is, less than two million litres.

The Rs 64.18 crore ambitious drinking water project, as per affidavit filed by East Singhbhum district administration before Jharkhand High Court in December last year, was to commence from March 31, 2013.
