Saryu Roy files RTI application to counter charges levelled against him, hasten ACB probe

Jamshedpur, Nov 17: Saryu Roy, the Singhbhum (East) independent MLA has filed an RTI application seeking information from the secretary of food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department about the charges filed against him. Roy has said that he will submit the information and documents to ACB for further investigation into the matter.

Roy was accused in a complaint filed with the ACB against the publication of Aahar magazine when he was the state minister for food and civil supplies. The complainant had alleged that Roy had ignored the official procedures and had sanctioned the publication of the magazine without issuing a tender. In his RTI application Roy has sought copies of various documents connected to the publication of the magazine from the department.

After verifying the pretext and veracity of the allegations levelled by the complainant against Roy, the ACB recently sought sanction to further investigate the allegations of corruption against the independent MLA. The investigation agency has sought permission from the state government to compare documents submitted by the complainant with original documents of the department to cross check whether there was any corruption involved in the publication of the magazine.

Roy said that he wished to hasten the process and also urged the state government to grant permission to ACB for further investigation into the matter. He said that he has filed the RTI application to assist the investigators. He said that the documents he has sought through RTI are all connected to the publication of Aahar and these are the same documents that ACB wishes to cross-check. Roy said that he will submit the documents procured through RTI to ACB for its investigations against him.
