Minister calls on SSP to nail criminals
Jamshedpur, May 14 : Concern over the rising crime graph in the city, especially in Mango State food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy has raised a demand that there must be a regular interaction at thana level on monthly and S.P. level on quarterly basis. Roy on Monday called SSP Anup Birtharay for a meeting at Circuit House.
According to the minister such interaction should not be similar to interaction being organised at festival rather police officials send invitation and such interaction preferably be take place regularly. The minister said that strict vigil and regular patrolling must be ensured.
Roy expressed concern over rising shooting incidents in Mango. Meanwhile, a police official said that the present situation is due to increase in crime and criminal activities which can be controlled with general positive consciousness and mind set of the local people to fight against it and give support to administration.
The police administration has decided to revamp patrolling in the city. From now onwards instead of 3-4 policemen who usually travels in the air-conditioned patrolling vehicles (Tata Safari), there will be a single cop who will direct the cops on bikes for action after receiving call. The district police have decided to introduce the new system across all the 17 police stations in the steel city from tomorrow.
” The cops on bike, which are better known as Mobile Tigers were patrolling the streets on their own choice. At the same time the beacon light-fitted patrolling vans used to do their rounds independently. But now each of the patrolling vans has been tagged with four or five Mobile Tiger units for an effective management of policing,” said an official.
He said that the Tiger Mobile cops as well as the patrolling car will concentrate on the places where drugs and illicit liquor are consumed while at the same time will carry our surprise checking of the suspected criminals moving either on sports bike or in tinted car,” said the senior police officer.
Apart from focusing on snatchers the mobile cops will also pay special attention at the commercial banks.
Moreover, women cops will keep an eye on eve teasers at strategic places across the steel city. The teams will work in tandem with tiger mobile jawans and officer in-charge of local police stations.
Police sources said 35 women constables will be on duty at strategic locations like Nicco Park, Jubilee Park, Tata Steel Zoological Park, Hudco Dam, Dimna Lake, Mody Park Sakchi Aam Bagan Maidan and Sakchi turnaround. There will be four women constables in separate teams which have already started the job.
Several cases like these have become common in the city. However the police look serious to curb the menace.
