Sarhul celebrated in Jamshedpur, Pappu Sardar joins festivities

Jamshedpur: Sarhul, the grand festival of the tribal community, is being celebrated with great enthusiasm and deep-rooted traditions in Sitaramdera. In the Oraon settlement, members of the community performed rituals near a sacred Sakhua (Sal) tree, symbolizing their reverence for nature. The ceremony included the worship of trees, hills, and water bodies, reflecting the community’s spiritual bond with the natural world.

Following the rituals, a vibrant procession was organized in accordance with tribal customs. Nine married women, dressed in traditional attire and carrying ceremonial kalash on their heads, took part in the procession.

On the occasion, social worker Pappu Sardar—also known as a devoted fan of Madhuri Dixit—joined the celebrations to promote tribal culture. He presented traditional sarees and suhaag items to the women participating in the procession.

Sukhram Lakra of the Central Sarhul Puja Committee (East Singhbhum) stated that the festival preparations began from the time of Holi. Sarhul flowers and leaves were offered at the ceremonial Chala Mandap, and on the Tritiya of the Shukla Paksha, a special ritual was performed by the Pahan (tribal priest), symbolizing the divine union of the Sun and the Earth.
