Sanjiv Paul calls for more off-site mock drills in Tata Steel operating units with NDRF

32nd National Road Safety Month and 50th National Safety Week concludes in Tata Steel

Jamshedpur, March 16: Tata Steel organised the virtual joint closing function for the 32nd National Road Safety Month 2021 and 50th National Safety Week on March 15.

 Road Safety Month is observed under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways every year. The National Safety Council supplements the government’s initiative by promoting road safety campaigns across the country. The theme of this year is ‘Sadak Suraksha – Jeevan Raksha’.

Sudhansu Pathak, Vice President (Steel Manufacturing), Tata Steel & Chairman Apex Road & Rail Safety Sub-Committee; Sanjiv Paul, Vice President (Safety, Health & Sustainability), Tata Steel, and Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, President, Tata Workers’ Union graced the function.

 Neeraj Kumar Sinha, Chief Safety, Tata Steel, gave a brief overview of various events and competitions organised during this year’s campaign to augment safety awareness across the Company.

Sudhansu Pathak congratulated all the winners of various events and competitions. He pointed out how every life lost in road incident impacts lives of the victim’s family and leads to a loss for the nation. He elaborated on the new road safety initiatives deployed across Tata Steel’s locations. He emphasised how sharing learnings and best practices would further strengthen road safety commitment and cause.

Sanjiv Paul summarised the evolution of road safety journey that the company has undergone over the years. He expressed the need to have off-site drills with National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), like the one conducted recently in Jamshedpur, in various operating units of Tata Steel. He congratulated all the winners, the Apex Road & Rail Safety Sub-Committee and organising team for their continued commitment and efforts.

This year, the safety department of Tata Steel organised various engagement initiatives such as online quiz, poster making competition, hazard-hunt competition, identification of good road Samaritans, role model vendors and departments who furthered the cause of road safety. Winners in these categories were recognised during the ceremony.
