Jamshedpur, July 13: Sanjeev Verma has taken over as the new general manager of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd’s (BSNL) Jamshedpur secondary switching Area (SSA).
The former GM B N Singh has been transferred to Gaya circle. Verma who was earlier posted as deputy general manager, BSNL, Jamshedpur SSA, took charge from the outgoing general manager B N Singh.
Verma said that he will work to expand reach of BSNL. Though it has made considerable progress in enhancing its connectivity in moblie phone sector and also in broad-band services, but we will make further efforts to get the services to reach grass root level.
The new GM said he is aware about call drop problem at some parts of the city and also in rural areas. He promised to address the issue as soon as possible.
Prior to this Verma was earlier posted as general manager (marketing) in the BSNL’s Ranchi circle. Earlier to his Ranchi posting, he was as deputy general manager (Planning) at the Jamshedpur SSA. The erstwhile senior GM, BN Singh has been posted in the same capacity at Gaya Circle in Bihar.
Notably, a notification of Singh’s transfer to Gaya had come a day before the Union minister for information technology and telecommunications, Ravi Shankar Prasad visited the steel city on June 15.
Moreover 60 Wi-Fi hotspots will come up in Jamshedpur. Authorities will carry a survey to identify the zones where the service will be introduced. Within a year the proposed hotspots will start functioning.
BSNL would be setting up 185 2G towers and 185 3G towers in the State while 50 such towers will come up in Jamshedpur and its surrounding areas.
