Chaibasa, Nov. 12: Sand mafias are active in covert illegal operation of sand in Noamundi and Jagnnathpur block of West Singhbhum District now days.
They are operating illegal excavation from beds of Baiterny River Jaintgarh . These excavation are going on at five excavation points.
The sand mafias operate the sand with the nexus between mafia and the local police administration.
After excavation, illegal sands are dumped at different hideouts. Early morning around 3pm The sand is transported to various destiny . Some of the big illegal sand miner after procuring documents from the legal sand mines owner or illegal source, they sell in the market .
A dozen of sand mafias are involved in this illegal sand mining . In this connection , Last Sunday in a meeting W. Singhbhum Deputy commissioner Abu Backer Sidhique warned the sand mafias not to indulge in any type of illegal mining in the district. One of the officer of Mining department said that we have not given any permission to excavate sand from Jaintgarh River Baitarney.
Till now Mining department has cleared four rivers sand permissions for excavation excludes Baiterny River . Despite the all rules and regulation the administration has failed to stop illegal mining causing huge revenue loss to the government.
Sand from over than five dozen excavation points from the beds of small rivers and streams have a great demand in outside market. “The high quality of sand available at Banka is mainly because of small rivers and streams which pass through valleys and rocky places.
Such sand is ideal for construction work,” said Rajesh Jha, a sand contractor at Banka. Jha supplies sand to distant places like Siliguri in Bengal and lower Assam.
