Jamshedpur: City-based social organization Samadhan today launched a campaign against polythene at various Durga Puja pandals.
Members of the outfit visited puja venues at different places and distributed eco-friendly bags among the people. They appealed to the puja organizers and visitors to avoid polythene bags and instead use their eco-friendly alternatives.
The outfit members accompanied many committee members and others to take a pledge against polythene in order to save the environment.
The campaign started at a function organized near the Durga Puja pandal at Agrico where representatives of many puja committees had gathered. As many as 7000 eco-friendly bags were made available to the representatives of 10 puja committees. An appeal was made to shop owners and the people in general to neither give nor demand for polythene bags in the interest of the ongoing environmental conservation efforts all over the world.
Leading the campaign, Poonam Vig, outfit president, said that bringing about a social change was possible only through a change in one’s own attitude. She said the NGO will continue to encourage people to use eco-friendly bags by distributing such bags among them.
The chief guest of the bag distribution programme was the divisional manager (HR and IR) of Tata Steel Processing and Distribution Limited (TSPDL) Shekhar Jha, vice president of TSPDL Union Aman Kumar and patron of Samadhan cum district BJP president Dinesh Kumar.
