Jamshedpur: Third day of ongoing Tata Steel Asian Junior Open and Girls Championship 2023 witnessed some close contests between the participants at the JRD Tata Sports Complex.
Second round of the game proved to be decisive in the Girl’s section whereas in the open section, mixed results were observed. The top boards in the open section, were trying hard to conquer each other but all three boards ended in a draw eventually.

In the Girl’s category, playing with the white pieces on the 1st board Salonika Saina defeated Marium Fatima, while on 2nd board Dakshita Kumawat lost to WIM Bommini Mounika Akshaya. 3rd game went long but eventually Mrittika Mallik converted the complex endgame into winning one.

On the Boy’s section game between Aswath S and Grebnev Aleksey went into a draw after 54 moves on the 1st board. On 2nd board, Srihari L R was pushing hard to win with the kings Indian attack opening but eventually game went into a draw after 46 moves, Fide Master Mohammed Anees played accurately and saved his position to draw the game.

On board 3, the Rapid champion Mayank Chakraborty was facing a strong opponent International Master Rohith Krishna. He was pressing hard to convert but the game went symmetrical on both sides and ended in a draw.

3rd round of the Classical format of the championship was inaugurated by Suresh Kumar, Life Member, East Singhbhum District Chess Association by making the ceremonial first move on the chess board.
