Jamshedpur: The administration has decided to covert the old Sakchi jail into a quarantine centre for prisoners. At present, suspected Covid-19 prisoners used to undergo 21 days quarantine at an isolation centre within the campus of Ghaghidih Central Jail at Karandih.
But as per the plans, from next week all accused of different cases, convicts and prisoners from other districts who all are referred to Ghaghidih Central Jail will first have to undergo 21 days quarantine at the Sakchi jail, which is lying closed since 2008.
Superintendent of Ghaghidih Central Jail, Satyendra Prasad Choudhary said that they inspected the abandoned Sakchi jail last evening to see the situation there. The idea is arrange accommodation for 200 prisoners at the new quarantine centre at Sakchi jail.
He said a decision was taken to convert the Sakchi Jail into a quarantine centre as it will help in reducing the risk of other jail inmates get infected with the killer virus.
