Safety of children is our top priority: Amit Kumar

DC turns down school van drivers demand for leniency

Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar on Thursday refused to show any leniency on curbing overloading in school vans and auto-rickshaws. He said the administration will continue the drive against overloading and no mercy will be shown to van and auto-rickshaw drivers found flouting safety norms.

Kumar was speaking to a delegation of school van and auto-rickshaw drivers who met him to seek relaxation in safety norms. He said any relaxation would entail compromise with the safety of children which was not acceptable.

Ensuring safety of children is our top priority. The van and auto-rickshaw drivers should cooperate with the district administration. All stakeholders should cooperate with us on the issue of road safety, said the DC.
