Tata Steel’s SHE Excellence Awards concludes with a message on values driven excellence

The 4th edition of the SHE Excellence Awards recognises dedication and leadership in upholding essential values, extending recognition to vendor partners for the first time

Jamshedpur, Feb 13: Tata Steel’s SHE Excellence Awards recently concluded its 4th edition with the theme “Values Driven Excellence.” The event, held at the Tube Makers Club, celebrated employees who exemplify dedication and leadership in Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE). TV Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

In a significant move towards inclusivity, the SHE Excellence Awards 2023 extended recognition to non-officers and vendor partners for the first time. This step reflects Tata Steel’s dedication to appreciating the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders in promoting safety, health, and environmental excellence. Established in 2019 to foster a fair and just workplace, the SHE Excellence Awards highlight Tata Steel’s commitment to recognising and nurturing employees who uphold these essential values.

TV Narendran, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Steel said that commitment to ensuring the safety of every individual is above and prime. Acknowledging the challenges in the steel value chain, he emphasised the need to demonstrate safety through actions, not just words. He also congratulated the individuals for the commendable work done under Safety, Health and Environment and urged them to keep motivating other in the mission towards Zero Harm.

Rajiv Mangal, Vice President of Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel emphasised on the rigorous evaluation process defining the awards. Stressing that safety is a core value, Mangal urged thoughtful adoption and implementation of these values to achieve workplace excellence. The Reward and Recognition program aims to inspire leadership behaviour within the company.

Sanjeev Choudhary, President of Tata Workers’ Union, highlighted the increasing standards set by each edition of the SHE Excellence Awards. Recognising the vital role of vendor partners, especially supervisors and workers at the grassroots level, Choudhary emphasized the importance of involving them in reward and recognition initiatives to promote inclusivity at the operational level.

Vendor Partner Awards included Safety Evangelist (Worker) Award, Safety Evangelist (Supervisor) Award, Frontline Leaders Awards, Safety Evangelist (Non-Officers) and Safety Evangelist (Officers). Top three individuals from each award category were awarded for their dedicated contributions.

Under the Group Awards category, the Green Cross Trophy went to I Blast Furnace, Tata Steel Jamshedpur, Apex Safety Torchbearer Award went to Hot Strip Mill, Tata Steel Kalinganagar, Environment Excellence Green Award was bagged by Sinter Plant, Tata Steel Jamshedpur, the Best of the Best Department 5S & Visual Workplace Management award went to Khondbond Ore Mines & Quarries Division and the Apex Health Torchbearer award was bagged by Lime Plant, Tata Steel Jamshedpur.
