Jamshedpur, Feb. 5: A 30-year-old woman belonging to the primate and almost extinct Sabar tribe jumped off the second floor of the Sakchi-based MGM Medical College and Hospital on Friday morning.
The patient was identified as Rubni Sabar, wife of Gurucharan Sabar, a resident of Gobarghushi village in Patamda. It is suspected that the sustained internal brain injuries due to the fall.
Rubni, who is mother of three children, has now been admitted at the emergency department of the medical college hospital. Earlier, she was undergoing treatment at the medicine department in the medical block of the four-storied hospital building.
Sources informed that the incident occurred after the patient’s husband met her lying on her bed on the second floor of the hospital and returned.
“They had some talks and as the husband returned, Rubni left her bed. The next moment she suddenly climbed onto an opening meant for fixing air-conditioner, and jumped out of it,” said an attendant of another lady patient. The patient was lying on a pool of water on the ground after the near-fatal jump.
K N Singh, senior physician of the hospital who was attending on Rubni, said that the patient was admitted to the hospital on January 26 with fever.
“Actually the patient wanted to go home. On Thursday, she claimed that she was alright. But we did not release her yesterday and promised her to release at 11 a.m. today, but before a few hours of her release she suddenly jumped from the medical block’s second floor,” said Singh.
Newly appointed hospital superintendent A N Mishra said he rushed to the spot after getting information about the patient’s fall from the medical block.
The patient has been kept under observation. They are trying to find out the motive behind her suicidal bid. Meanwhile, a doctor informed that the woman is completely normal, but is not talking to anyone.
