Rs 224 crore earmarked for Deendayal Upadhyay Gam Jyoti Yojana

Jamshedpur : East Singhbhum is likely to be fully electrified this year with the state government planning to provide power to the remaining villages under the Deendayal Upadhyay Gam Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY).

A meeting of district committee for electivity was held in which MP Bidhyut Mahato, Meneka Sardar and DC Amitabh Kaushal participated.

Under the scheme, the Centre will fund 60% of the total cost, the Rural Electrification Corporation (REC) 30% and the state 10%. “The need assessment document has been submitted to the REC.

The detailed project report is in the making after surveys. We expect to start the project soon after getting clearance and complete it in the financial year 2015,” said the MP.

The villages were to be electrified under the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY) launched in April 2005.

The Narenda Modi government aims to provide uninterrupted power to villages through separate transformers for agricultural and non-agriculture consumers,   besides effecting total metering to bring down technical and commercial losses of discoms.

“The purpose is to avoid overloading of transformers and maximise electric supply to rural consumers. Previously we were providing 10kVA/16kVA transformers in rural areas.

Under the DDUGYJ, we plan to install 25 kVA transformers in villages,” said official. Under RGGVY, rural families under below poverty line were to be given connections.

In DDUGJY, connections will be given to all. There will be 11 kV dedicated feeders to run agricultural pumps under Tilka Majhi Krishi Pump Yojana.

Till now 89 power substations, out of the 107 planned under RGGVY, have been installed.

The rest will be executed under DDUGJY. The JUVNL is executing 11 power substations — five in Palamu, Garhwa and Latehar and four in East Singhbhum, Saraikela-Kharsawan, West Singhbhum, Thakur said. Eight substations were installed in Chatra but could not be charged up.
