Chaibasa, Oct 13: A jawan of RPF died after being attacked by the local villagers. The villagers created a ruckus on Tuesday night at Banspani station of Chakradharpur Railway Division.
Alleging the death of a villager due to the beating of RPF, villagers attacked the station and then RPF barracks. There was heavy stone-pelting and arson.
Starting from the station master room to the entire station, the whole station was vandalized. Four RPF personnel have been injured in the attack, in which one RPF jawan Raju Kumar has died. While RPF jawan Shamsher, Sub Inspector Pradeep Kumar and another jawan are seriously injured. Those who are being treated at Tata Steel Hospital in Joda.
According to the information, a 27-year-old youth named Laxman Patro, a resident of Bhonjohating of Banspani, was caught by RPF on the two number railway line at around 9 pm on charges of theft of iron ore. When the said youth tried to run away, he was beaten up by the RPF. Due to which he died on the spot. As soon as the information was received, the angry villagers of Bhonjohating and Coalhating reached in front of the station with the dead bodies. After which stone pelting and sabotage started at the station. After creating a nuisance at the station, the villagers went towards the RPF barracks and started pelting stones there. In which the villagers surrounded the four soldiers and started beating them. Out of which an RPF jawan named Raju Kumar was seriously injured.
On the other hand, according to RPF sources, Patro had fallen on the track and they had taken him to his house. After which he died. The villagers accused the RPF of beating. It is noteworthy that the game of coal theft at Banspani station is quite old.
