Jamshedpur, Dec 1: In a major operation, the Tatanagar Railway Protection Force (RPF) late last evening successfully foiled an attempt at human trafficking and rescued five minor girls who were being taken to Tamil Nadu.

The girls, all from West Singhbhum district, had been brought by road from Chaibasa to Tatanagar station, from where they were to be transported to South India by train.

RPF personnel noticed two suspicious women — Savita Birua of Manjhari (West Singhbhum) and Belmati Hembram of Pasuhatu (Chaibasa Mufassil) — hurriedly escorting the five girls towards the platform.

When questioned, the women initially claimed they were friends of the girls and were travelling to Tamil Nadu for personal work.

However, their statements were inconsistent and raised suspicion.

The RPF then conducted a detailed interrogation in the presence of women constables.

Under sustained questioning, both women admitted that they were taking the girls to Tamil Nadu on the pretext of providing jobs.

They further revealed that they were promised substantial money by middlemen involved in the trafficking network.

The RPF immediately contacted the families of the rescued girls and informed Childline, which took them into safe custody.

According to officials, three of the girls are aged 15, while the remaining two are 17.

The team is also gathering more information from the victims to identify the handlers and networks behind the trafficking attempt.

Following the rescue, the two accused women were handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) for further legal action, and the process to send them to jail has been initiated.

The swift and proactive operation by Tatanagar RPF not only thwarted a major trafficking attempt but also underscored the force’s vigilance and strong commitment towards the safety of women and children travelling through the railway network.
