RPF cracks down on Railway e-ticket black market in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur: A joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Crime Investigation Bureau (CIB) busted an illegal e-ticket black market operation on Monday, the team was led by post in-charge Rakesh Mohan and the operation resulted in the arrest of agent Bijay Singh and the seizure of several materials used in the illegal activity.
Acting on a tip-off, the team raided JNB Enterprises at 113 Shastri Nagar, Block No. 01, Kadma. Speaking about the raid, RPF officer Rakesh Mohan said, “The accused was using unauthorized IDs to sell tickets at higher rates. This is a clear violation of railway rules and such practices will not be tolerated.”
Bijay Singh was selling e-tickets using both his authorized railway agent ID and personal IDs, exploiting customers by charging higher prices.
According to officials, this practice not only deceived passengers but also caused revenue losses to the railways. Items seized included a live e-general ticket, 23 old e-general tickets, 12 old e-tatkal tickets, 7 old e-premium tatkal tickets, a Xiaomi mobile phone, a monitor, CPU, keyboard, mouse and other equipment.
Further interrogation revealed that some licensed railway agents use personal IDs to sell tickets at higher prices once their allotted quota is exhausted. Sources indicated that this racket involves multiple brokers operating from cybercafes and private homes.
The team involved in the operation included sub-inspector Rajbir Kumar, ASI S.K. Pandey, task force ASI D.K. Singh and CIB officers Rambabu Singh and Nagendra Kumar.
The RPF has stated that investigations are ongoing to identify other members of this illegal network. The railway administration has urged passengers to purchase tickets only through authorized channels and report any suspicious activities. “Passengers must remain vigilant and avoid dealing with unauthorized agents to ensure fair travel practices,” an official said.
