Jamshedpur, Aug 23: In a bid to make people aware against Filariasis, Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West organised a camp at Diksha Centre in Sonari on Monday, August 23. The camp was inaugurated by Rotarian Sanjeev Sehgal, Chairperson, Diksha centre. People from nearby areas were provided medicines by the club which would act as a shield against filariasis. They were also sensitized on care practices. Several people benefitted from the camp. Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West has been organising health camps on regular basis for the underprivileged section of the society.
Lymphatic filariasis, commonly known as elephantiasis, is a neglected tropical disease. Infection occurs when filarial parasites are transmitted to humans through mosquitoes. Infection is usually acquired in childhood causing hidden damage to the lymphatic system.
