Jamshedpur: Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West in collaboration with Cancare, a voluntary organisation working for the welfare of cancer patients at Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital (MTMH), organised a webinar to observe World Cancer Day on the topic ‘A Healthy Lifestyle may Help Prevent Cancer’.

Students of classes 6, 7 and 8 of various schools from all over the town were invited to attend the webinar. Dr Jayita Bhattacharya of Meherbai Tata Memorial Hospital conducted the session and informed the students on how healthy habits like regular exercise, a nutritious diet and physical as well as mental fitness may help individuals keep cancer at bay. She also answered the various questions children had.

Dr Bhattacharya’s session was followed by a session by Dr Amit Mukherjee who himself is a cancer survivor. He educated participants on the early symptoms of cancer which should alert them so that they visit the doctor on time. We all know that cancer is treatable in its early stages. He also conducted a quiz in which students participated actively. Ten questions related to the topic were asked. The prizes for the winners would be sent to their respective schools.

About 430 students attended the webinar. Some teachers, Cancare volunteers and Rotarians also attended the sessions.
