Jamshedpur, January 10: The Rotary Club of Jamshedpur West has launched an innovative community project, “Rotary Rasoi,” to address the issues of street begging and hunger while promoting dignity among the underprivileged. The initiative aims to curb the misuse of money collected through begging and ensure access to nutritious food for those in need.
The club observed that a significant portion of the money given to street beggars is often misused for harmful activities such as drug abuse and gambling, rather than fulfilling basic needs like food. To tackle this problem, “Rotary Rasoi” has introduced an organized and effective solution.
Food Coupons for a Purpose
As part of the project, club members are provided with specially designed food coupons that can be given to beggars or anyone seeking help. These coupons can be redeemed at designated food carts in exchange for a wholesome meal. This system ensures that food requirements are met while preventing the misuse of monetary donations.
Extending Support to Hospital Attendants
The initiative also extends support to attendants of economically disadvantaged patients at the Tata Meherbai Memorial Cancer Hospital. These individuals often face challenges in arranging meals during their stay while caring for their loved ones. The availability of meal coupons allows them to focus on supporting patients without the added burden of securing food.
