Jamshedpur: The Rotary Club of Jamshedpur Steel City ushered in the Rotary year 2026–27 with the theme “Creating Lasting Impact” by organising eight community service initiatives across the city. The day-long campaign covered healthcare, education, environmental conservation, sanitation, maternal and child welfare, and social awareness.
The club’s new office-bearers also assumed charge for the new Rotary year. Rotarian Umang Jhunjhunwala took over as President, while Rotarian Vibhuti Dhand Adesara assumed office as Secretary. Rotarian Raksha Makati became Joint Secretary and Rotarian Kamal Makati took charge as Treasurer. Assistant Governor Rotarian Pramod Dubey, club members, Rotaractors, guests, and the families of Rotarians attended the inaugural programme.
The celebrations commenced with a blood donation camp at the Red Cross Building in Sakchi. During the event, eight eminent doctors, including Dr. Mandar of Tata Main Hospital, and three Chartered Accountants associated with the Rotary family were felicitated for their outstanding contributions to society.
As part of Project Positive Health, the club organised a health check-up and awareness camp at BMC Ferrocast Private Limited in Baridih. Led by Rotarians Jitesh Kumar and Deepak Dokania, the camp benefited 86 people through medical consultations and health screenings. Saplings were also distributed to promote environmental awareness.
A Menstrupedia awareness session was conducted at Sheyan International School in Mango under the leadership of Rotarian Rachna Nair. Seventy-eight girl students received guidance on menstrual hygiene, adolescent health, and personal care. Rotarians Hetal Adesara and Manju Bhamra, along with Khushbu Jhunjhunwala and five Rotaractors, participated in the programme.
The club also organised a tree plantation drive on the school campus, spreading the message of environmental conservation among nearly 500 people.
Rotary District Governor Anu Narang addressed a special session on water conservation, safe drinking water, and sanitation. The programme was also broadcast by All India Radio, Adityapur.
To promote mental well-being, Rotarian Nitulika Singh and her team conducted a meditation and wellness session at the JFC Youth Centre at the Tata Football Academy. Participants were sensitised to the importance of mental health, stress management, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
The day’s activities concluded at Sri Sathya Sai Sanjeevani Hospital in South Park, where blankets were distributed to the families of 15 newborns under the leadership of Rotarian Urvi Adesara. Buttermilk was also served to doctors and hospital staff as a gesture of appreciation for their services.
Speaking on the occasion, Club President Umang Jhunjhunwala said Rotary’s strength lies in meaningful action rather than promises. He said launching the new Rotary year with multiple service initiatives reflected the club’s unwavering commitment to serving society and marked the beginning of a year dedicated to community welfare.
Club Secretary Vibhuti Dhand Adesara said lasting social change could only be achieved through collective effort. She thanked all Rotarians, Rotaractors, volunteers, partner organisations, and family members for contributing to the successful execution of the projects.
Several Rotarians and volunteers, including Krishna Khara, Jitesh Kumar, Shivani Goyal, Inderjit Ghosh, Deepak Dokania, Deepali Dokania, Amrita Vakharia, Kamal Makati, Vishal Lodha, Urvi Adesara, Uday Dhir, Smita Parekh, Alpa Parikh, Shilpa Danuka, Savak Patel, Rajesh Mittal, Priyanka Singh, Nishant Dhoot, Ravi Rungta, Khushbu Jhunjhunwala, Chetan Adesara, Hetal Adesara, Gaurav Rungta, and Gautam Singh, actively participated in the successful implementation of the service initiatives.
