Jamshedpur: Efforts being put in by city-based NGO, Roshni, to create awareness on eye donation have started bearing fruits with a Kadma resident donating her eyes to the outfit before passing away
Yesterday, M Rama Rao, a managing committee member of Roshni, got a call from Biswanath Mukherjee, a resident of Kadma, requesting him to send the team from Roshni as his 80 years old mother Sabita Mukherjee passed away. The body of Sabita Mukherjee was taken to Tata Medical Hospital. Biswantah Mukherjee said his mother wanted to donate her eyes after her death.
Taru Lata Gandhi, vice president of Roshni along with Dr Rajnish Bahadur Singh, an ophthalmologist of Jamshedpur Eye Hospital and N Mahanand, technician, reached the hospital and successfully harvested both the cornea from the deceased and collected blood samples for mandatory tests.
Roshni members said, We salute the spirit of the Mukherjees for their noble gesture which is going to help restore sight of two people who were waiting for years. With more and more people coming forward Roshni is hopeful of taking care of all their potential recipients in near future. It is indeed heartening that our appeals are reaching out to the people.
