Jamshedpur: One Muralidhar Singh, a native of Aurangabad (Bihar), was run over by a road roller at Marine Drive under Sonari police station area on Tuesday.
Sources said the incident occurred in the morning when the road roller ran over the deceased while going in reverse direction.
Its driver, unable to see who was standing behind, put the vehicle in reverse gear and drove backwards. The deceased, standing close behind and unaware of the impending danger, was crushed under the heavy roller of the vehicle.
He succumbed at the scene. Later, the kin and supporters of the deceased blocked the road for several hours demanding compensation and action against the guilty driver.
A large number of vehicles were lined up on the Marine Drive as a result of the agitation. Cops somehow persuaded the agitators to give up agitation and assured to take measures to fulfill their demands.
