Jamshedpur, Nov 18:Police have arrested three co-workers—Jaskaran Singh, Vishal and Arshpreet Singh—in connection with the murder of road construction worker Pratap Singh near Turiabera on the NH-33 stretch under MGM police station area.
A case of murder has been registered against the trio on the basis of a statement given by the victim’s nephew.
The incident, believed to have occurred three days ago, came to light only recently, prompting police to intensify the investigation.
Pratap Singh, a native of Punjab, had been working for the NH-33 widening project in Jamshedpur for the past few months along with relatives and brothers.
On Saturday, the labourers were engaged in placing heavy iron plates with the help of a crane.
Site foreman Ranjit Singh Randhawa said he had called the team earlier to check on the work status and was informed that one plate had been fixed and preparations were underway to install the next one.
He had advised them to work cautiously.
However, when he called again a few minutes later, his phone went unanswered.
Shortly afterward, he received a callback informing him that Pratap Singh had been assaulted and rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Ranjit reached MGM Hospital immediately, where Pratap’s nephew informed him of the tragic news of his death.
Doctors declared Pratap dead on arrival.
The body has been kept in the cold chamber of the post-mortem house. The family is expected to reach Jamshedpur soon, after which the post-mortem will be conducted.
Police said the motive behind the assault is still unclear.
Interrogation of the three arrested accused is underway, and statements of other workers present at the site are also being recorded.
Police are examining technical evidence and witness accounts to determine the actual reason behind the murder.
