Revised water project estimate for Cabinet approval

Ranchi : Chief Secretary R S Sharma today suggested presentation of the revised estimate of the Ranchi water supply project under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JnNURM ) for approval by the Cabinet.

Shri Sharma said this today at a meeting with Drinking Water and Sanitation Department held at the Project Building.

Shri Sharma made this suggestion after the Secretary, Urban Development Department Shri. A.K. Singh said at the meeting that the contractor who was earlier hired for the project had been blacklisted and so the work has been withdrawn from the contractor.

Shri Singh however said that after a revised Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared, the project cost had exceeded the earlier estimates and so the differential amount needed funding by the State government.

At the meeting, the Chief Secretary said that it was essential that projects were planned in such a manner that they optimized the life-cycle cost of the project.

Chief Secretary focusing on the integral development of water supply of Ranchi city, said that safe and reliable water supply contributes in achieving sustainable access to drinking water for millions of people. This is the key factor for strengthening the public health and development.

The Additional Chief Secretary Drinking Water & Sanitation Department, Shri. Sudhir Prasad, Special Secretary, Finance Department, Shri. A.P. Singh, along with other officials were present at the meeting.
