Jamshedpur, July 6: Continuing its monthly tradition of honouring retiring employees, the Tata Workers Union (TWU) on Monday organised a farewell and felicitation ceremony for 16 retired employees of Tata Steel at its Conference Hall in Jamshedpur.
The programme began on a sombre note with the gathering observing a two-minute silence to pay tribute to Renuka Choudhary, wife of TWU president Sanjeev Kumar Choudhary, who passed away unexpectedly on July 4. Union office-bearers and the retired employees prayed for the peace of her departed soul before the proceedings commenced.
The 16 retirees were felicitated with bouquets and gift vouchers as a token of appreciation for their years of dedicated service to Tata Steel.
The ceremony was conducted by TWU vice-president Shahnawaz Alam. General Secretary Satish Kumar Singh attended the event as the chief guest, while co-president Shailesh Kumar Singh was the guest of honour.
Addressing the gathering, Satish Kumar Singh interacted individually with the retirees, enquired about their well-being and highlighted the welfare initiatives undertaken by the union for retired employees.
He informed them about facilities such as the Puri Guest House, Benjamin Rest House and Cancer Rest House, and responded to various issues raised by the retirees.
He assured them of the union’s continued support and assistance whenever required.
Co-president Shailesh Kumar Singh extended his best wishes to the retirees for a healthy and fulfilling post-retirement life, describing retirement as the beginning of a new and meaningful phase.
