Jamshedpur, October 5: Union Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, officially resumed operations at Hindustan Copper Limited’s (HCL) Surda Copper Mine in Surda village on Saturday. The event began with a puja, followed by the switching on of the mine’s lift. Jharkhand Minister Ramdas Soren and Jamshedpur MP Bidyut Baran Mahto were present. The Minister also flagged off copper ore-loaded vehicles headed for Musabani Mill.

In his address at the Surda village football ground, Dubey hailed the restart as a major step toward India’s copper self-reliance, expected to generate over Rs 100 crore in taxes and generate significant local employment. The mine’s production capacity will increase from 0.4 to 0.9 million tonnes per year.

Dubey further announced that production at HCL’s Rakha and Kendadih mines will begin within a year, tripling ICC’s ore output. These expansions will generate 2,000 direct and 10,000 indirect jobs locally.

The event included addresses by HCL CMD Ghanshyam Sharma, Director Mining Sanjeev Kumar Singh, and Joint Secretary Vivek Kumar Bajpai. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by ICC Unit Head Shyam Sundar Sethi. Local officials and villagers were also present.
