Jamshedpur: �Residents of Adityapur in adjoining Seraikela-Kharsawan district set on fire six heavy vehicles — three trucks and three dumpers-following a mishap in which a 25-year-old local youth , Deepak Mishra died on the spot after being hit by a speeding dumper near the Sher-e-Punjab Chowk.
Mishra, a resident of New Housing Colony, in Hari Om Nagar in Adityapur� and a supplier of building construction materials was returning home on his bike from Bistupur when he met with the unfortunate fate.�
As the news of the mishap spread, the local residents and other commuters started gathering at the spot. Failing to get trace of the erring truck, the frenzied residents� stopped three trucks and an equal number of dumpers and torched them one after the other.
The mob also pelted stones on the passing vehicles damaging some of them.� The act of arson and ransacking of vehicles began at around 1.30 pm and continued for about two hours.��
The Adityapur and RIT police had to resort to a mild lathicharge for dispersing the mob. Police also had to be called from Jamshedpur at around mid-night for controlling the situation.
The police took the body into their possession at around 1.15 in the night and sent it to the Tata Main Hospital for post-mortem. As the family members came to know about the mishap some rushed to the site of the mishap while others went to the hospital.
Officer-in-charge of Adityapur police station Ajay Kumar who was present at the spot said that two fire tenders had to be pressed into service to douse the flames.
