Residents block Dimna Road as Mango reels under darkness

Jamshedpur : Residents led by local BJP workers on Saturday blocked the Dimna Road chowk that connects NH 33 to the city after the electricity department failed to restore the power supply even after 36 hours.
Several localities in Zakirnagar, Azadnagar, Subhas Colony, Moon City and the residential apartments plunged into darkness as an overloaded truck hit high tension transmission line on the Marine Drive.

Even after 36 hours of power failure the department has failed to resort it, said a protester.

The incident took place when the overloaded truck on its way to the Marine Drive near the L&T ( Larsen and Toubro) yard hit the 33 KV transmission line of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited ( JUVNL). The heavy vehicle after hitting the high tension cable sped towards Mango. Due to the impact of the mishap two overhead high tension lines which connect Mango sub-station with Gamharia power grid got snapped and fell into the near-by Subernarekha river.

Several other localities including Zakirnagar, Azadnagar, Subhas Colony, Moon City and the residential apartments on both sides of the National Highway-33 passing through Mango had to bear the brunt due to the dusruption in power supply.

Notably, the Singhbhum electricity supply area generates a monthly revenue to the tune of Rs 30-35 crore against the power boards total revenue earning of over Rs 100 crore.

The pitiable condition of the electricity wires and poles add more to the power woes of the Mango residents.

With regard to the electricity the scenario is far from improving as large population is solely dependent on limited sets of Jharkhand Urja Vikas Nigam Limited transformers in the area. The pitiable condition of the electricity wires and poles add more to the power woes of the residents.

Several residents of the different locality of Mango blocked the road and shouted slogans against the officials in an attempt to draw their attention to the plight of the commoners in the wake of no power supply for the last two and half days.

Even though, the police managed to prevent the angry people from damaging the public property but the latter were infuriated over the indifferent attitude of the personnel. The power supply was resorted this afternoon.
