Relatives protest woman’s death at Jamshedpur hospital

Jamshedpur, Jan. 30: Relatives and neighbours of a woman patient who had died allegedly after caesarean operation at MGM Medical College and Hospital few days back on Wednesday staged a protest at the state-owned hospital demanding action against the doctor.

The relatives of the deceased patient, Champa Rajak (21), wife of Tapan Rajak, a labourer and a resident of Shiv Mandir area in Bhuiyandih, alleged that due to negligence of the doctors at the MGM Hospital led to severe complication and finally the patient died after being admitted in Tata Main Hospital.

We are in state of shock and never knew that such thing will happen. My wife was fit when she was admitted on January 25 morning at the MGM Hospital. She underwent caesarean operation under supervision of Dr Manjula Srivastava on the same day. However, in the evening, I found the bed sheet soaked in blood and informed to the staff but there was no doctor in the ward for nearly two hours.

I then asked my friends to complain to the hospital superintendent after which the doctor came and again took her to the operation theatre. Her condition started deteriorating and at around 11.30 pm the doctors said that her condition is critical and it would be better if she is taken to Tata Main Hospital (TMH). On being referred we took her to TMH where she finally died early morning on January 26 said Tapan.

The relatives and neighbours shouted slogans against the doctors for nearly an hour before they were met by hospital superintendent Dr S. N Jha.

We have submitted our demand to the hospital superintendent and warned that if no action is taken against the doctors within a week then we will against stage a demonstration, said Tapan. The baby is safe.

Hospital deputy superintendent, Dr Nakul Chaudhary said that the patient was a known case of anaemia. Hospital superintendent, Dr S. N Jha assured of a probe.
