Jamshedpur, March 22: Senior advocate Ratindro Nath Das has been elected as new president of Jamshedpur Bar Association.
Ratindro Nath (59) defeated his nearest contestant Sambhu Dayal by 290 votes. Nath had a much greater support base in the Jamshedpur Bar Association, which has in all 1,276 voters. Ratin had bagged 631 votes, where as his immediate rival Dayal had managed to get 341 votes.
“I thank everyone for the support. I will do everything possible for the well being of the lawyers,” said the new president. Ratin said he was happy because he won the election on his maiden attempt.
The polling for the bar association elections had been held on Saturday and from Saturday evening the counting of votes had begun at the Bar Association building in the presence of three elections commissioners, Jitendra Singh, Harendra Singh and Sunil Singh.
Advocate Anil Kumar Tiwary, who was the sitting general secretary managed to retain his post once again. Similarly, Advocate Mohammed Qasim who was also sitting vice president also won in the poll.
According to sources in the Bar Association, the date for a meeting of the new executive committee has not been fixed as yet and it will be held after Holi vacation.
