Rathyatra over 200 year old in Gamharia

Gamharia: A grand rathyatra of Lord Jagannath is going to be taken out in Bada Gamharia Basti on 14th July under the aegis of Sri Sri Bhagwan Jagannath Temple Committee. Preparations for the grand event are almost complete.

According to the committee members, the rathyatra was first taken out in Bada Gamharia some 200 years ago. Till date, the tradition has continued with an increasing number of participants. Every year, a large number of participants attend the rathyatra and render service by pulling the chariot.

As per popular belief, devotees pulling the chariot get peace and prosperity. Thousands of people will be gathering outside the temple to participate in the annual spectacle.

The temple committee members engaged in rathyatra preparations include Sitaram Bej, Radhanath Dey, Ganesh Das, Varun Das, Chhutu Das and Badal Das.
