Rare coins on display at Tulsi Bhawan

Jamshedpur, Dec. 10: The 25th edition of Jamcoin, a three-day exhibition by the Coin Collectors Club at Tulsi Bhawan is a big hit. Hundreds of rare coins, a few dating back to the old centuries, displayed at a coin exhibition here, turned out to be a big draw for numismatists from different parts of the country.

The members of the club and students from various schools are exhibiting their coin collections, which includes ancient to modern coins. The coins included ancient Indian gold coins of the Gupta age and those from the times of the Mughal.

The collection also included coins from different princely States in pre-Independent India. �Collection of coins is not only a great hobby but it is also an investment. The coins are priceless for their historical value,� said official of the club.

The coins issued by various kingdoms that ruled India in the past, foreign stamps, coins and currency notes issued on diverse themes and subjects were all put for display here.

To motivate school students Sit & Draw Competition (on Numismatic) in two groups (Std I to VI) for junior and (Std VII to X) for senior was conducted on 8th December.  All the participants displayed their talent and made drawings on different coins.

Quiz Competition on Coins was organised on 9th December.

On the sidelines of the exhibition, a Philatelic exhibition is also being organized with its theme being Coins/Currencies and Cleanliness.  

Coins and stamps on JN Tata are also exhibited for which separate corner has been set up

The exhibition is open for all citizens of Jamshedpur, school students, coin lovers, scholars and those who would like to develop their interest in coins/currencies.

Earlier on Sunday, Tata Steel Vice President (Corporate Services) Chanakya Choudhary inaugurated the exhibition in presence of Jusco MD Tarun Daga, Former Tata Steel MD JJ Irani, Daisy Irani, Govind Madhav Sharan, P Babu Rao and others.

Addressing the gathering, Chanakya Choudhary said children have taken coins collection as a hobby. It helps us to know about erstwhile history. At the exhibition coins from British era and Mughal period are up for display. Choudhary said he was particularly impressed with the exhibition.
