Rare Coins on display at Jamcoin

Jamshedpur, Jan 19: The 19th edition of Jamcoin the three day rare coin exhibition organized by the coin collectors club of Jamshedpur kicked off at Mohan Ahuja Stadium near JRD Tata Sports complex on Sunday, January 19.

The event was inaugurated by Anand sen, VP Tata Steel in the presence of Jusco MD Ashish Mathur, Dr. JJ Irani, Daisy Irani, Kalyan Guha and others.

The event is being held on a bigger scale this year which is being supported by Jusco’s campaign–Zimmedaar Nagrik, Zimmedaar Shahar Ashish Mathur, managing director, Jusco who is also the president of the Coin Collector’s Club said that the three-day event is the first-of its-kind event.

A fashion show by students was the main attraction at the inaugural function on Jan 19. The theme of the event is to showcase the history and development of coins across the globe.

The exhibition displays rare collection of coins from ancient era, Moghul rule, Maratha, Medieval and pre-independence period. It also showcases why India was known as the golden bird and our rich heritage and culture.

Two speakers– Susmita Basu Majumdar and Ravi Shanker from Kolkata have been invited to speak on coins.

There will be an inter-school quiz competition. Established in 1994, the club is the only organisation in the state working for the promotion of numismatics.

The club, which has 100 odd members, is also gearing up to add new members by launching a membership campaign in the eastern region.

Kalyan Guha, general secretary of the club said that even though large sections of coin collector�s are eager to come on the common platform to exhibit their rare collection.

But in the wake of lack of awareness about the presence of the club they are unable to display their love for ancient coins.

Therefore, a sustain campaign is being carried to bring the otherwise scattered coin collectors under one umbrella.

City-based coin collector’s club has proved its merit by successfully organising exhibition for last one decade and its eagerness to venture into the auction, added Guha.
