Rape attempt leads to volatile situation in Gamharia, three booked

Jamshedpur: An incident of alleged rape attempt in Tetuldanga village of Gamharia led to a tense situation on Wednesday with the people of two villages taking to the streets with arms. The situation was however controlled by the timely intervention of police who have booked three persons under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.
Sources said the villagers of Shivnarayanpur and Tetuldanga, both adjoining each other, prepared themselves for a violent clash after several youths of Tetuldanga allegedly tried to rape two minor girls of Shivnarayanpur near the forests. One of the girls, who escaped from the clutches of the youths, informed Shivnarayanpur villagers about the incident. Soon, hundreds of villagers started search for the accused persons in Tetuldanga. It was decided to raise the issue at a meeting of people of both villages on Wednesday. On the day of meeting, the accused youths were reported to have fled Tetuldanga. This enraged Shivnarayanpur residents, leading to a volatile situation.
On coming to know of the situation, Seraikela SDPO Avinash Kumar reached Tetuldanga with police teams from Adityapur, Kandra and Gamharia and tried to pacify the agitated villagers. He said the accused persons would soon be arrested. An FIR has been registered in this connection with the Adityapur police station.
