Jamshedpur, Oct 28: The task to win or make a mark in the first match of Ranji Trophy for Jharkhand who are looking a competitive side with inclusion of pacer Varun Aaron and Saurabh Tiwary, against heavyweights Delhi became more difficult as Day 2 of the season�s opener was officially called off today without a single ball being bowled after a formal inspection by the umpires on Monday morning at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur.
Day one of the match was also washed out on Sunday after inclement weather combined with wet and damp outfield made the ground unfeasible to play.
Jharkhand State Cricket Association was hopeful and had pressed all their groundsmen at work to dry the ground but there was no let up from rain for five days that left the field soggy.
There was hope among the cricket enthusiasts with the sun shining bright Monday morning but after the 11 a.m. inspection done by match referee the outfield was deem to be too wet for play.
The pitch was covered by tarpaulins overnight which protected most parts of it, the wicket itself looked dry and fit for play.
Cyclone Phailin, a tropical storm from the Bay of Bengal, triggered heavy rain in the southeastern Indian coast.
Delhi team who are put up in Hotel Alcore in Bistupur, did not turn up at the venue as only the match officials came to make the announcement.
