Jamshedpur, Nov 28: The second day tomorrow will probably test the Jharkhand lower order as much as they are on backfoot against Gujarat after the hosts lost a wicket on the last over of the day thrashing their dream of reaching a big total.
Rameez Nemat and Saurabh Tiwary were the only stand out as both scored a half-century each as hosts reached 194 for five at the end of the first day`s play of their Ranji Trophy Group A match against Gujarat at Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur on Thursday.
Nemat was caught of a short ball scoring 12 boundaries in his 78. The only star performer of the team in this season Saurabh Tiwary scored an unbeaten 75 with the help of seven fours and a six.
Jharkhand received two early blows after Shahbaz Nadeem elected to bat saw opener Bhavin Thakkar (14) and first down Ishank Jaggi (1) were dismissed early. But other opener Nemat, with the help of Tiwary strengthened the innings.
Nemat and Tiwary helped put a 135-run stand together for the third wicket before Nemat got out. The down fall of Nemat set off a mini collapse as hosts lost Bhavik Thaker (0) and Kumar Deobrat (5) cheaply and end the first day’s play on back foot.
For Gujarat, Jasprit Bumrah who with his short pitch stuff claimed two for 51, while Akshar Patel (1/26) and Rakesh Dhurv (1/50) took wicket apiece.
Jharkhand 1st innings: 194 for five in 89.3 overs (Rameez Nemat 78, Saurabh Tiwary batting 75; Jasprit Bumrah 2/51) vs Gujarat.
With two outright losses under their belt, the hosts would like to put up their best show on day 2 against Gujarat, who lead the group table with 14 points from four matches. Jharkhand, on the other hand, has two from four outings. The Shahbaz Nadeem-led side had managed one point each against Delhi and Karnataka.
