India to play Aussies at JSCA stadium

Ranchi, August 1: The BCCI on Tuesday awarded a marquee T20 international match to Ranchi during the home season staring September 17.

Team India will play a T20I match against Australia in Ranchi during the Kangaroos tour of India from September 17 to October 11. This will be the second time when Jharkhand State Cricket Association Stadium in Ranchi will host a T20 international match.

“Dates of the matches were deliberately not frozen today because of the logistics, local factors such as festivals, like Durga Puja and other public holidays,” acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary told mediapersons today.

Most probably Ranchi will host its second T20I in the first week of October.

Cricket buffs in the state are happy about the development as this is for the second time Barabati will host a Twenty20 international match.

Cricket lovers from Jamshedpur who travel to Ranchi for the international matches are also ecstatic after Ranchi was conformed one of the venues.

‘Its great news as we will be able to watch T20 international match after more than one and a half year’, said Rounak Agarwal, a cricket lover and industrialist residing in Jamshedpur.

DAV Bistupur student Shubham Gupta who is an avid cricket fan, says, ‘T20 international match is always a fun and the match becomes more big as India will take on Australia’.

The decisions were taken at the Board’s tours and fixtures committee meeting on Tuesday. It will be a big home season for the Indian team as it will play 23 international matches across three series starting end of September and concluding at the end of December were New Zealand and Sri Lanka will tour after the Aussies series concludes.

Earlier, Team India played a T20I against Sri Lanka on February 12, 2016 in Ranchi where the hosts beat the island nation comfortably by 69 runs. It was the second T20 International of the three match series.

Ranchi which hosted its first test match in March 2017 between India and Australia which ended in a draw, will be ready in excitement to organise the second T20I at the JSCA stadium.

Home town of MS Dhoni has also hosted two ODIs the first match was played between India and England on Jan 19, 2013 while India played New Zealand on October 26, 2016 in the second ODI.

Ranchi is the only venue for international cricket in Jharkhand after Jamshedpur’s famous Keenan Stadium stopped hosting matches due to squabble between Tata Steel, the owner of Keenan Stadium and Jharkhand State Cricket Association (JSCA). Keenan last hosted a one-day international between England and India on April 12, 2006, as a part of the TVS series.

Hyderabad and Guwahati are other venues which will host the T 20 matches during the tour.
