Ranchi Court acquits former Jamshedpur MP Dr Ajoy on charges of extremists link

Jamshedpur, Aug 25: Former Jamshedpur MP Dr Ajoy Kumar has been acquitted by Ranchi court due to lack of evidence in a case of helping and talking to the Naxal leader during Lok Sabha Election.  

MP-MLA Court, while delivering the verdict acquitted Dr Ajoy due to lack of evidence. Earlier on Tuesday, August 25, the former MP pleaded innocent before the special court.

Advocates Sudhir Kumar Pappu, Vimal Kumar, Babita Jain were also present in the court on behalf of Dr Ajoy.

The case pertains to July 2, 2011 when BJP leader Dineshanand Goswami had lodged an FIR against Dr Ajoy in Sakchi police station. Complaint was also lodged with the Election Commission.

Later the investigation of the case was handed over to the Crime Research Department. The case went on in court for 10 years. Dr Kumar had contested the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha by-election as a candidate of Jharkhand Vikas Morcha. He won the election with an overwhelming majority. BJP candidate Dineshanand Goswami had accused Dr Ajoy Kumar of taking help from Naxal leader Samarji and influencing voters.

At the same time, the CD of the conversation was also provided to the police, in which it was said that the conversation of Dr Ajoy and Samarji is on record.

Presently Dr Ajoy Kumar is a senior leader in Congress. The party has made him in-charge of Mizoram and Sikkim. After winning the election in 2011, he contested from Jamshedpur Lok Sabha parliamentary constituency in Jharkhand Vikas Morcha ticket in 2014, but was defeated by BJP candidate Bidyut Baran Mahto.
