Ranchi: The Ranchi bandh called by Bajrang Dal and several tribal organizations in protest of the violence in Chanho was largely successful. Police took over a hundred bandh supporters in custody and later released them on personal bond.
The bandh was supported by Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Shiv Sena, Kendriya Sarna Samiti, Kanke Sarna Samiti, Chadri Sarna Samiti and several other organizations.
As a result of the bandh, the city roads wore a deserted look from morning till dusk. Private city schools had announced holiday today in view of the bandh.
The bandh supporters burnt tyres at several places including Albert Ekka Chowk, Sujata Chowk, Circular Road and Lalpur Chowk. They demanded arresting of the culprits who led to violence and killing of a villager in Chanho.
It is very unfortunate that such violence has taken place under the very nose of the administration. The state administrative machinery should not have taken the land dispute so lightly. They should have taken action by arresting the troublemongers before the incident happened, said one of the bandh supporters.
In view of the bandh, the district administration had deployed 60 magistrates and over 500 police jawans across the city. Prohibitory orders were issued for the entire city.
