Seraikela: Panic gripped Seraikela town on Saturday as a stray dog terrorized residents, attacking pedestrians and leaving eight individuals injured in a single day. The victims, ranging from young adults to elderly citizens, rushed to Sadar Hospital for urgent medical attention.
The incidents occurred in various parts of the city, with the dog targeting unsuspecting individuals walking on the streets. Among the injured were Ravish Kumar Singh, Sanjeet Sardar, Pooja Singh Modak, Manisha Soren, Amalavati Pradhan, Vikas, Poonam Singh Modak, and Haradhan.
Medical staff at Sadar Hospital promptly administered anti-rabies vaccines and provided appropriate treatment to all the victims. “We have adequate stock of anti-rabies vaccines, and all patients are being treated properly,” assured Sanjeet Kumar Rai, manager of Sadar Hospital, emphasizing the hospital’s preparedness to handle such emergencies.
The latest spree of attacks highlights a concerning trend in the region. Sadar Hospital has reported a staggering 610 dog bite cases since January 2024, with 61 incidents occurring in December alone.
While the hospital has managed to provide timely treatment, the rising number of cases underscores the urgent need for municipal authorities to address the growing issue of stray and potentially rabid dogs in the area.
The rampaging dog has left residents in a state of fear. Many are hesitant to step out, particularly in areas where the animal was last seen. “The authorities must act swiftly to capture the dog and ensure the safety of the community,” demanded a local resident.
The recurring dog bite cases have raised concerns about public safety and animal control measures in Seraikela. Authorities are urged to launch immediate efforts to locate and restrain the aggressive dog, while also implementing long-term strategies such as sterilization drives and vaccination programs to mitigate the risk of such incidents.
