Ranchi, May 16: Six new Coronavirus positive cases have been reported in Jharkhand on Sunday, May 17, taking the total number of COVID-19 positive cases to 223. Two positive cases have come up from Ramgarh and one each from Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Lohardaga and Deoghar. Ramgarh and Lohardaga are the new districts that have been added to the list of Corona positive in Jharkhand. With new cases from Ramgarh and Lohardaga, 17 districts of Jharkhand are now COVID-19 infected, said State Health Secretary Nitin Madan Kulkarni. In Lohardaga, 18-year-old boy who returned from Kolkata on May 12 was tested positive on Sunday. At first he was the Kurse resident was admitted to quarantine centre on May 12 and his blood sample was sent to Itki TB Hospital. But the administration heaved a sigh of relief that the boy did not visit his village and was directly sent to quarantine centre. The positive cases in Hazaribagh district has risen to 25 after a 30-year-old man from Gurhet village of Sadar block tested positive for the virus on Sunday. He is migrant who returned from Mumbai on May 11 and was quarantined at Badkagaon ITI quarantine centre the same day. His swab sample was sent to Ranchi on May 13 and his report came positive on May 17. Of the 25 cases in Hazaribagh district, 22 are active while 3 patients have recovered and discharged from the hospital. Coronavirus entered Ramgarh district on May 17 as two men tested positive for COVID-19. Infected men are residents of Ramgarh and Patratu and had returned from Chennai on May 13. Their sample was sent to Ranchi on May 13 and report came positive on May 17. Another corona positive was reported from Manoharpur block of Deoghar. The patient had returned from Surat on May 4 with seven other persons in a Bolero. He was put under quaratined at a school in his village and was later shifted to quaratine centre in Manoharpur block. After his positive report the patient has been shifted to Maa Lalita COVID Hospital.
17 districts out 24 in the state have been affected with COVID19 infection with East Singhbhum, Latehar, Lohardaga and Ramgarh district being the recent entry in the list. All new samples tested positive are of the migrants and stranded labourers.
Out of 223 positive cases so far, 104 are from Ranchi, 28 from Garhwa, 10 from Bokaro, 15 from Palamau, 10 from Giridih, five from Deoghar, five from Dhanbad, six from Koderma, 25 from Hazaribagh, four from East Singhbhum, two each from Jamtara, Simdega, Ramgarh and Dumka. One person each from Godda, Latehar and Lohardaga has also tested positive for coronavirus.
Capital Ranchi accounts for 104 out of a total of 223 Covid cases. The Hindpiri locality in Ranchi is worst affected by the virus. This hotspot area is being manned by the CRPF personnel. Jharkhand has reported three deaths due to coronavirus so far.
In Jharkhand, 52.07 percent of the affected patients have recovered from COVID19 infection and have been discharged. The number of Corona infected patients has gone up to 223 in the state, while 113 patients have been cured. A total of 3 persons have died due to the disease, and 107 active cases are still undergoing treatment.
The first case of the pandemic was reported from Hindpiri on March 31, when a 22-year-old Malaysian woman, who had been to Delhi�s Tablighi Jamaat congregation, tested positive. She has since been discharged after being recorded from the dreaded disease.
