INDI alliance will govern Jharkhand for next 20 years: Ramdas Soren

Ranchi, Dec 5: Senior JMM leaders Ramdas Soren and Deepak Birua have been reinstated as ministers in the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand Cabinet which was expanded on Thursday.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at Raj Bhavan, with Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administering the oath of office and secrecy. Both leaders are experienced politicians and key members of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). Their return to the cabinet is expected to strengthen the government and enhance its functioning.

Ghatsila MLA Ramdas Soren, a prominent tribal leader in Kolhan has previously served as Minister of Water Resources Department, Minister of Higher Education and Minister of Technical Education in Government of Jharkhand.

Ramdas Soren expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Hemant Soren for providing him the opportunity to serve again. Soren, who previously held a ministerial position for a brief period of just over a month, vowed to deliver better results in his new role.

“I thank Chief Minister Hemant Soren for appointing me as a minister once again. Although my last tenure was short, I had started implementing initiatives in both my departments. This time, I will ensure even better performance in whichever department I am entrusted with,” he stated.

Soren also expressed confidence in the stability of the current government, asserting that it will complete its full five-year term. Looking ahead, he declared, “The INDI alliance government will remain in power in Jharkhand for the next 20 years.”

Chaibasa (ST Reserve) MLA Deepak Birua, the fourth term legislator who previously held the post of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Backward Class Welfare Department minister has become the minister for the third term.   He won the Chaibasa Assembly seat with 64,835 Votes.

Both leaders expressed their gratitude for the opportunity and reiterated their commitment to work towards the welfare of the people of Jharkhand. Their portfolios are expected to be announced shortly.

Deepak Birua, active in politics since his youth, initially contested the 1990 Assembly elections as an independent candidate from both the Chaibasa and Majhgaon seats but was unsuccessful. Undeterred, he again ran as an independent from Chaibasa in the 1995 Assembly elections but faced defeat.

In 2000, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) fielded him against Congress leader Bagun Sumbrui in Chaibasa, but Deepak could not secure a victory. Five years later, in the 2005 Assembly elections, he contested as an independent candidate from the same seat, losing to BJP’s Putkar Hembrom.

After four consecutive losses, Deepak finally achieved electoral success in 2009, winning the Chaibasa seat and marking a turning point in his political career.
