Rajini steals show as Jamshedpur Women’s College girls storm into RFYS finals

Jamshedpur: Rajini Kerai hogged the limelight on the first day of semifinal action as her four goals, including a hat-trick, powered Jamshedpur Women’s College, Bistupur’s march into the school girls’ final of the Reliance Foundation Youth Football tournament here on Monday.

Rajini scored all the goals for JWC as they routed Upgraded High School, Chainpur 4-0. She singlehandedly destroyed whatever hopes the Chainpur outfit might have nurtured before the start of the match at the Tinplate Sports Complex Stadium. Rajni’s goals came in the 15th, 21st, 42nd and 49th minutes, leaving the jury with no choice but to declare her player of the match.

The JWC girls’ opponents in the final on Thursday will be Jamshedpur Public School, New Baridih, who downed Kasidih High School, Sakchi with a similar scoreline.

If Rajini was the star for JWC, Priya Gurung led the honours for JPS scoring two goals (24th and 44th minutes). Anoushka Kashyap provided a superb start for JPS with a first minute goal while Prerna Kumari doubled the lead in the 15th minute before player of the match Priya stepped up with a double strike.

The college boys’ semifinals were, however, closely fought with Shaheed Nirmal Mahato Inter College, Chainpur edging out Ran Vijay Singh (RVS) College of Engineering and Technology, Pardih 1-0. After a barren first half, the deadlock was finally broken by player of the match Mulam Majhi in the 71st minute to propel Nirmal Mahato College into the final.

ABM College, Golmuri overcame stiff resistance from Karim City College, Sakchi before winning 2-1. Both teams battled hard and it was only in the 50th minute a goal was scored. Even before ABM could celebrate Milan Mukhi’s strike, Karim City hit back in the next minute to level the scores through Sanjit Poddar.

Bittu Mukhi eventually netted the winning goal for ABM College, six minutes before the finish.
