Jamshedpur, Feb 7: City experienced light to moderate showers today. An official of IMD’s Ranchi Meteorological Centre said that apart from showers, several pockets of the district will witness lightning and thunder for the next 24 hours. An alert was also issued by the meteorological department in this regard this afternoon.

Satellite pictures and other weather observations today revealed that the western disturbance in the form of a cyclonic circulation was hovering over Jammu and Kashmir at 3.1 Km above mean sea level today . An associated trough was also hovering over middle and upper tropospheric level at 5.8 Km above mean sea level .

Another cyclonic circulation was existing over southwest Madhya Pradesh extending upto 1.5 km above mean sea level. But, the impact of this cyclonic circulation would wane in next 24- hours.
Data suggested that light rain occurred at isolated places over Jharkhand during the last 24 hours ( 8.30 am of Tuesday to 8.30 am of Wednesday). The highest rainfall was experienced at Kolebira ( in Simdega)-4.2 mm. Simdega town recorded around 4 mm while several places in Gumla and Lohardaga recorded rainfall of 2 mm. Capital Ranchi recorded rainfall of 1 mm while the local observatory in Jamshedpur recorded 0.3 mm. Weathermen said the current wind pattern was helping in moisture incursion into the atmosphere and cloud formation. The minimum readings ( or night temperature ) also witnessed a rise.
The officials said that department cannot forecast how harsh the winter this year would be. However, the temperature would range between 10 and 22 degrees.
Meanwhile the daylong drizzle coupled with cold winds disrupted life in the city as people faced difficulties The drizzly weather caused long tailbacks on the city streets on Friday. Pedestrians had trouble walking on sidewalks and roads and many found their clothes mud-splattered.
