Mail News Service

Jamshedpur : The Ranchi Met Centre has issued a moderate thunderstorm activity and rain in places like Gumla, Simdega, Latehar, Lohardagaga and Ranchi. “We have issued no alerts for tomorrow ( April 9) but thunderstorm activity and rain is expected again on April 10 and 11 in south, north-east and central Jharkhand,” said an official.

Weathermen said a  cyclonic circulation extending upto 0.9 Km above mean sea level over Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh triggered the storm and rain. While Jamshedpur recorded around 8 mm of rain, the IMD observatory at Ranchi Meteorological Centre recorded around 4 mm of rain.

?Rain has brought respite to the simmering April heat. The weather bureau had predicted cloudy skies and light rain in some areas of Chottanagpur plateau region, which will continue for the next 48 hours.

Meanwhile scattered to fairly widespread rain or thundershowers with isolated thunder squalls have been forecast over the Chottanagpurregion.

Another met official of the city said that maximum temperatures would fall by 2-3 deg Celsius during the next three days. However the cloudy weather would not affect the heat in the city. “The moisture content in the air is very high. Maximum and minimum temperatures will be above 36 degree Celsius.

People, in large numbers, ventured outdoors enjoying the breezy weather while some youngsters preferred to get drenched in the drizzle. Showers were seen in areas of Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Chakulia and lasted more than an hour. According to the meteorological department, chances are that these localised thunderstorms will greet the city tomorrow once again.
